It was a cold and bitter day as the Maroons had their first practice of the 2011 season. Spirits were high as the Maroons took the field for the first time in over three months. As typical, the practice did not involve sticks but simply endurance and strength tests. Various runs, including the Sunset Road Run, situps, and other fitness tests were the bulk of the day’s practice.
Coach Pilat, in his cold weather gear from his playing days (which included a faded #37 on his Maroon-colored jacket), shared with us the structure for the next couple of weeks. “We’ll start playing the next couple of weeks. Right now, we’re just running and taking care of our fitness.”
Roanoke has it’s first scrimmage in less than a month in Salem versus Mary Washington. GoNoke.org will continue to receive updates and attend the occasional practice to document the progress of the team.
